Meet Matthew

COUNSELLOR & MEDIATOR

Matthew is a qualified counsellor with expertise in male mental health, youth counselling, and eco-anxiety. With a strong background in conflict resolution, Matthew takes a holistic, client-centered approach to help individuals of all ages cultivate resilience, find balance, and reconnect with a sense of hope in an increasingly uncertain world.

When working with male mental health, Matthew works with men and young men to address emotional well-being in a society that often discourages vulnerability.

With a specialisation in eco-anxiety, Matthew helps clients navigate the emotional impact of climate change and ecological issues. He provides a compassionate, safe space for individuals to process feelings of fear, grief, and helplessness related to the environment.

Through evidence-based therapies such as mindfulness and eco-therapy, he helps clients transform their anxiety into empowerment, fostering a sense of hope, resilience, and agency. This approach is particularly beneficial for youth, who face the added pressures of growing up in an era of environmental uncertainty.

Matthew’s professional journey brings wide-ranging experience in diverse workplaces and communities in Australia and overseas. Originally a fish farmer, he then spent many years with multi-national corporations, followed by work in small business and university.

Underpinning these experiences is a deep spiritual connection to nature and the wilder places in the world.

Matthew holds a Diploma of Counselling, a Bachelor of Science, a Masters in Peace and Conflict Studies, a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, and is a sessional academic at the University of Newcastle.
